Will Wade - Where is He Now?

March 11, 2024

Wade did NOT hold back this morning regarding the NCAA, the transfer portal and much more.

The saga of Will Wade’s career has been one that is full of highs and lows. After being fired by LSU in 2022 following recruitment violations, he spent a year away from the sidelines before making his way to McNeese State in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Wade took over a program that had been dragged through the gutter by a series of scandals, and was quickly able to rebuild the team. His first season resulted in an NIT appearance and a return to the NCAA Tournament. The next year he led the Tigers to their second Sweet 16 in school history.

However, he would eventually be forced out of Baton Rouge after an FBI wiretap revealed him discussing a strong ass offer with aspiring agent Christian Dawkins. Wade was found guilty of five Level I recruiting allegations in the fallout and was suspended for the 2019-20 season.

Wade then spent two seasons as the head coach of Chattanooga, where he was awarded the Anton Foy Southern Conference coach of the year award in 2014. The Mocs went 40-25 in his two years at the helm and were atop the league during that time.

He then returned to VCU for the final four years of Shaka Smart’s tenure as the Rams’ head coach. During that time, he was 113-37 and made three straight trips to the NCAA Tournament. It was during this time that Wade became known as one of the country’s top recruiters, a title he carried with him to his new job at LSU.
