The Lifetime television show Any Day Now is a wonderful drama that tells the story of two best friends, Mary Elizabeth “M.E." O’Brien Sims (Potts) and Rene Jackson (Toussaint), who grew up in Birmingham, Alabama during the slow desegregation of the 1960s. The two women are married to heterosexual husbands and have a close friendship, even though their families have different opinions on the difference between races. The show is a wonderful depiction of racial tolerance and friendship in a time when it was hard for many people to see past differences.
Both Annie Potts and Lorraine Toussaint are excellent in the lead roles of their characters. Toussaint is a SAG award-winning actress who is also known for her roles in Selma and Orange is the New Black. She is one of the most talented and beautiful actors in Hollywood and it is easy to see why so many love her performances.
Potts is also an incredible actor, and it is just as easy to see why she has been nominated for numerous awards for her work. She is such a versatile performer and can play just about any role that she is put in front of.
The cast of Any Day Now is rounded out by the likes of Chris Mulkey, Dan Byrd, Donzaleigh Abernathy, and Susie Essman as supporting actors. The show has a great story line and is very well written. It is a shame that it ended after its four-season run, but it was understandable due to the fact that Annie Potts wanted to focus on caring for her family.
