Where is Sofia Laine Now?

September 7, 2023

Sofia Laine came to fame when she sued her daughter Vanessa Bryant for financial support following the death of NBA superstar Kobe Bryant and their 13-year-old daughter Gianna in a plane crash in January 2020. The 71-year-old mother of the grieving widow has since been in the news for several reasons, including her claims that she was kicked out of the family home and asked to return the possessions she had brought with her.

Sofia Urbieta Laine was born on October 4, 1952, in the United States. She was raised as a single mom and worked as a shipping clerk. In 1990, she married Stephen Laine, a middle manager, who was eight years her junior. The two stayed together until they divorced in 2002.

While there is no confirmed information on her children, Sofia is a Christian and may have siblings who are also not in the spotlight. She is a private person who does not like to share much of her personal life.

As for her career, she was a shipping clerk until she met Stephen. The pair fell in love and married in 1990. Afterward, Sofia took up the role of a stay-at-home mom to raise their daughters, Vanessa and Sophie.

In the past, Sofia had publicly supported her daughter Kobe and was often seen at his games, even when he retired his jersey numbers.

The elder Laine lives in the gated community of Summit at Turtle Ridge in Irvine, California, which is only a few miles from the Bryants’ primary home in Newport Coast. She currently has a home listed for sale in the area with an asking price of $5 million.
