MIAMI - The South Florida teen who made national headlines for flipping off a judge during her first bond court appearance has successfully completed a drug rehabilitation program. Penelope Soto, 18, appeared in court Friday to get a court order removing her from criminal drug charges. She received a round of applause from her mother and the judge. Soto's attorney Steven Cohen told CBS4 that both physically and emotionally, she's doing well.
Soto was arrested last year for possession of a prescription drug, Xanax. Her first arraignment went viral after she flipped off Circuit Judge Jorge Rodriguez-Chomat and yelled "F--- you," after the judge raised her $5,000 bond to $10,000.
At her next hearing, Soto appeared smiling and her attitude had completely changed. She even said she's sorry for her behavior. Rodriguez-Chomat was still not pleased with her, though. He called Soto back to the bench and increased her bond again, to $10,000. Soto flipped him off and blurted out an expletive and was sentenced to 30 days in jail for contempt of court.
On Monday, Soto was back in court for a status hearing. She passed all eight of her drug tests and attended all counseling sessions since her arrest.
