Where is Martin Bashir Now in 2022?

September 7, 2023

When Martin Bashir interviewed Princess Diana for the BBC's Panorama in 1995, it was hailed as the scoop of a generation and launched him into fame. He went on to conduct major interviews with Louise Woodward, George Best and Michael Barrymore, winning a BAFTA for his work.

However, 25 years after the infamous sit-down, The Crown Season 5 brought new allegations to light, claiming that Bashir forged bank statements to earn the trust of Diana's brother Charles Spencer and her sister Earl in order to secure the interview. It was also claimed that he used these fake documents to suggest that individuals close to the family were selling information about them. The BBC apologized to the family and hired former British Supreme Court judge Lord Dyson to investigate the case.

In May 2021, the findings of the investigation came to light and revealed that Bashir breached editorial guidelines and was found guilty of deception. He resigned as the BBC's religion editor, citing health issues.

It wasn't long before Bashir landed himself a new gig, co-anchoring Nightline on ABC in New York. Despite his recent troubles, Bashir's career has been impressive to say the least, racking up interviews with Michael Jackson, George Best and Louise Woodward over the years. He has three children with his wife Deborah and lives in Hampshire, England.
