Luka Magnotta has never been the kind of guy to sit around and wait for life to come to him. That’s why the convicted cannibal killer is taking the federal government to court to force his transfer out of a maximum-security prison in Quebec and into a medium-security facility, CTV reports. The former escort and two-bit porn actor is serving a life sentence for murdering and dismembering Chinese student Jun Lin in Montreal in 2012.
The video of the grisly killing, with acts of necrophilia and cannibalism, went viral. A community of amateur sleuths formed on the internet to track down the man responsible, and it didn’t take long for them to find him.
At his trial, Magnotta’s lawyers tried to convince the jury that he wasn’t responsible for his actions because of a mental disorder. But the jury didn’t buy it, and he was convicted of first-degree murder.
He’s currently in prison at the maximum-security Port-Cartier facility in Quebec, where he’s serving his life sentence. He’s also been convicted of producing and sending obscene material, committing an indignity on a corpse, and criminally harassing the prime minister. And he recently married another convicted killer while behind bars, the Montreal Gazette reports. It’s a marriage that won’t be free of controversy.
