The Jacksonville, Florida, teenager who was kidnapped at birth and reunited with her biological parents is now 25 years old. Her story made national headlines, was turned into a Lifetime movie and featured her on a reality TV show with her father, Craig Aiken. Despite reuniting with her family and living a normal life, Kamiyah Mobley still calls Gloria Williams "mother."
In 1998, just hours after being born at University Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida, baby Kamiyah was taken by a woman who pretended to be a nurse. Gloria Williams, who was in an abusive relationship at the time and had already miscarried a child, took the newborn away from hospital staff and raised her as Alexis Manigo in South Carolina. She was arrested in 2017 after more than 2,500 tips were received, per USA Today. When she was 18, Kamiyah learned the truth about her past and found her biological mother, Shanara Mobley. The two reconnected in a tearful meeting.
Kamiyah has since developed a close bond with her genetic family, and they continue to share memories. Nevertheless, her loyalty to her kidnapper has caused tension between the family members. According to USA Today, Shanara even blocked her daughter's number at one point. Despite this, Kamiyah has written letters to her kidnapper asking for her release from prison. However, her request was denied by a judge.
