Where is George Zimmerman Now?

September 6, 2023

Ten years after he fatally shot Trayvon Martin, George Zimmerman is still embroiled in controversy. Since his 2013 acquittal, he's been arrested for domestic violence, auctioned off the gun he used to kill Martin, and had several other run-ins with the law.

In 2015, he was arrested after allegedly beating his wife and threatening her father with a gun during a fight, but the charges were dropped when she recanted. Then in 2016, he made headlines when he tried to sell the gun he used to kill Martin online. But that wasn't his last encounter with the law: in January, he was arrested for allegedly attacking his girlfriend with a bottle of wine and pointed a gun at her, but those charges were dropped when she recanted.

Despite all of his legal troubles, it appears that Zimmerman is doing quite well financially. His divorce from Shellie filed in September revealed that he had a net worth of around $1 million.

He's also making waves in the political world. In 2019, he sued the parents of Trayvon Martin, their attorney Ben Crump, and others for $100 million, saying they defamed him with tweets celebrating the teen's 25th birthday.

As of this writing, Zimmerman is still in custody after his bail was revoked on Sunday. Judge Leslie Nelson, who presided over the trial, has been reassigned to civil cases and will no longer handle criminal matters. The judge's reshuffling comes just as a jury is set to start deliberating on whether the acquitted neighborhood watch volunteer murdered the unarmed black teenager.
