Early Life and Education

Birth and Early Years

Edward (“Ed”) Orgeron Jr. was born on July 27, 1961, in Larose, Louisiana, to Edward “Ba Ba” Orgeron Sr. and Cornelia “Co Co” Orgeron. Growing up in a family of Cajun descent, Orgeron's early life was shaped by a community of hunters, fishers, and cooks.

Childhood and High School

Despite breaking his leg in the second grade, Orgeron was dedicated to sports, learning to play football using crutches and a cast. He attended South Lafourche High School, where he played alongside future NFL quarterback Bobby Hebert and contributed to the 1977 state championship team.

College Football

Initially enrolling at LSU, Orgeron transferred to Northwestern State University due to homesickness. His college football years laid the foundation for his future coaching career.

Early Coaching Career

Initial Coaching Roles

Orgeron began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Northwestern State in 1984. He subsequently took on roles at McNeese State, University of Arkansas, and University of Miami. However, personal challenges in the early 1990s, including a restraining order and an arrest, forced him to take a break from coaching to focus on his personal issues.

Under his leadership, LSU achieved a historic undefeated season and a national championship in 2019, thanks to standout players and innovative coaching strategies.
