When DJ Law was a youngster, he was generally considered one of the most gifted running backs in Florida, if not the country. He had a lot of promise and was on the verge of making a name for himself in the NFL. However, family and academic issues always seemed to get in the way of his plans. He felt that he was missing out on his son’s growth, who was born in April 2013 and lived with his mother in Florida, and wanted to make something of himself to provide for his family as well as himself.
Following the show, he was invited to play for the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s football team and he took them up on it. He impressed coach Bill Clark in training camp and was expected to be a big part of the Blazers’ run game next season. However, a knee injury ruled him out for the season and he ended up benched for the entire year.
While he could have left the university to pursue a different opportunity, things were not so simple for him. He still owed the university $8,800 and they would not give him his transcripts to move on to another college until he paid the outstanding balance. So he started working and set up a GoFundMe page to work towards getting the money together. Despite all of the obstacles, his dreams did not die and he has now signed with the Amarillo Venom, which is part of the Champions Indoor Football League.
