Dalia Dippolito is a Florida woman who was convicted of trying to hire a hitman to murder her husband in 2009. She had been planning the killing for months. Her conversations with the alleged hitman were recorded by police. She was convinced that she would be able to collect the life insurance money. She also hoped to become famous on reality television for the stunt.
The police set up an elaborate sting to trap her and filmed the whole thing. They staged a crime scene outside her and her husband’s beige townhouse. They parked cop cars and yellow tape around the house and had a forensic photographer document the scene.
Dippolito agreed to help police find suspects. They even read out clear and graphic text messages between her and her ex-lover. In the end, she was convicted of solicitation of murder and given a 20-year prison sentence. But the conviction was overturned in 2014 on an appeals court technicality. Dippolito was retried and found guilty again in 2016. She now serves 16 years in prison at Lowell Correctional Institution in Ocala, Florida.
While in jail, she has given birth to a son. The baby’s father is a man with a criminal record, including possession of drugs and aggravated battery. Her attorney, Greg Rosenfeld, continues to fight for her release. He has asked the judge to modify her house arrest so that she can go out and spend time with her son. However, the judge denied his request.
