The once glamorous ex-wife of former Dodgers first baseman Steve Garvey is moving on up. NBC Palm Springs sports anchor Olivia Garvey announced during Friday night’s 6 p.m. newscast that she was leaving the station to take a job in Washington, D.C. News Director Gino Lamont said Garvey is an excellent sports journalist and was a natural at NBC Palm Springs because she’s a desert athlete herself, graduating from Palm Desert High School in 2012.
Cyndy — born Cynthia Truhan — and Steve married shortly after she started college at Michigan State, where she met the budding baseball star her freshman year. They were a picture of wholesome young success, and as Steve rose to fame in the Dodgers, they became known as the perfect couple. But when stories began to float about Steve’s infidelity, Cyndy was devastated and sank into a deep depression. Ultimately, she took up writing and began to work as a television host.
