Where Is Cyndy Garvey Now?

The once glamorous ex-wife of former Dodgers first baseman Steve Garvey is moving on up. NBC Palm Springs sports anchor Olivia Garvey announced during Friday night’s 6 p.m. newscast that she was leaving the station to take a job in Washington, D.C. News Director Gino Lamont said Garvey is an excellent sports journalist and was a natural at NBC Palm Springs because she’s a desert athlete herself, graduating from Palm Desert High School in 2012.

Cyndy — born Cynthia Truhan — and Steve married shortly after she started college at Michigan State, where she met the budding baseball star her freshman year. They were a picture of wholesome young success, and as Steve rose to fame in the Dodgers, they became known as the perfect couple. But when stories began to float about Steve’s infidelity, Cyndy was devastated and sank into a deep depression. Ultimately, she took up writing and began to work as a television host.

But in 1989, she was still haunted by her past and in the middle of a nasty divorce when she was stopped by a man with her daughter Krisha at a dry cleaners. The man told her, So you’re the bitch who left Steve Garvey!’’ And it was then that she realized she had to do something about her problems. That’s when she wrote her autobiography, Trouble in Paradise.’’ It’s the story of a woman who grew up in an unstable military family, abused by her father and then married a psychopath who was even more abusive.
