Curtis Shoemake was a suspect in the disappearance of Dina Shoemake. Dina went to her ex-husband's house in Latexo to visit their children in 2000 and never returned. Her live-in boyfriend reported her missing later that day.
Investigators searched the property and found a car registered to Dina. They also found a handgun. Investigators believe that Dina was shot and killed by her ex-husband.
Dina's family has never given up the search for her. Over the years, rumors have circulated in the small town of Latexo that her body is buried there. The family hopes that this arrest will finally give them some answers.
KTRE has learned that an indictment was issued in the case Tuesday and that Curtis Shoemake has been arrested. He is charged with first-degree murder. He is being held at the Houston County Jail.
Police say he was a suspect since early on in the investigation. They have not released any motive for the killing. They say he had been abusive to Dina in the past. He was a heavy drinker and a drug user.
He was convicted on three occasions of driving while intoxicated and his third conviction was for possession of cocaine.
