Where is Bobby Dassey Now 2022?

September 7, 2023

If you’re a fan of the Netflix true crime series Making a Murderer, then you know the story of Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan. Both men were convicted of the 2005 murder of Teresa Halbach, and they’ve spent more than a decade behind bars. Now, Brendan’s legal team has some new evidence that could get him freed.

In her most recent filing, Kathleen Zellner claims she has a witness who can prove that Bobby Dassey didn’t commit the murder. She says the witness can explain why police manipulated him to coerce his confession. She also says that the new evidence destroys Dassey’s credibility and links him to the crime.

On Monday, Zellner filed a motion with the US Supreme Court to request another look at the case. She says that a tow truck driver named Thomas Buresh can provide new information about the events that led up to Halbach’s disappearance and her eventual death.

He can say that he saw the vehicle and the Avery family homes on the property, but that he didn’t see any suspicious activity around Halbach’s car. He also can say that he didn’t hear any loud noises or gunshots that would have preceded the car’s disappearance.

Zellner says this evidence should raise serious doubts about the integrity of the original investigation, which she calls a rush to judgment. She also argues that the police violated Dassey’s rights by interrogating him four times in 48 hours, and by relying on his retracted confession and DNA evidence to convict him.
