'When did snoop dog die' has been the subject of many viral social media posts in recent days, as some fans panicked that the rapper had actually died. However, the death rumors were completely unfounded, and Snoop Dogg is still very much alive and well.
Born in Long Beach, California on October 20th, 1971, the young Cordozar Calvin Broadus Jr was nicknamed ‘Snoop Dogg’ for his love of the Peanuts cartoon character Snoopy as a child. He spent time in and out of prison following high school, but found a passion for music and soon began rapping professionally. After catching the attention of producer-rapper Dr. Dre, he became one of the most successful artists in the gangsta rap genre, and his carefully cultivated public persona earned him widespread popularity.
Snoop’s first album Doggystyle (1993) reached the top of Billboard’s hip-hop and Top 200 charts, and his second album, Tha Doggfather (1996), did the same. By this stage the gangsta rap movement was beginning to wane, but Snoop’s carefully cultivated public persona and West Coast slang soon saw him embraced as an icon of American culture.
After leaving Death Row Records, Snoop Dogg went on to release a series of albums for Priority/Capitol/EMI. Paid tha Cost to Be da Bo$$ and Tha Blue Carpet Treatment both received favourable reviews, but it wasn’t until 2004 that Snoop hit the big time with his chart-topping album R&G (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece and the single Drop It Like It’s Hot.
