Taking the lead from the sultry escapists, let’s look at some of the more intriguing musical morsels from the era.
There are a lot of faddish bands and tweenies out there, but few have managed to hold on to the top of the pops. The most successful of these is a band from a state near and dear to our hearts, New Jersey’s Soul Coughing. During its heyday the quartet was at the forefront of a musical renaissance that lasted for decades. They’re best known for churning out the sexiest indie rock hits of the late '90s, and for having an eye-catching singer whose eponymous name was synonymous with a witty albeit apprehensive approach to the microphone. The band has seen a resurgence recently, with a string of successful tours and a new album in the bag.
One of the most interesting aspects of this group is the way their members have incorporated their talents into new projects. In the above photo, Mike Doughty is the brains behind the new project - dubbed The Question Jar - which includes several of the most popular songs from their earlier days as well as some of their most innovative material yet. The aforementioned album will be released by the end of this year, and is set to be the best thing since sliced bread (pun intended).
