The song rangi saari chunariya lyrics meaning is an electronica-infused traditional thumri, a vocal genre that has its roots in Indian folk and symbolises love and playful mischief with the beloved. It is a part of 'Nach Punjaban', the first song to be released from Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions’ new movie Jugjugg Jeeyo, starring Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani. It was penned by Traditional and Kanishk Seth, and produced by Raj Mehta.
It was a smash hit upon its release in April 2022, scoring 10 Million plus organic Youtube views which is quite amazing for an independent music release. Singer and composer Kavita Seth lent her voice to the track along with son Kanishk, and it became one of their most acclaimed and streamed indie hits. Indrajit Nattoji, who is a Master of Design graduate and an award-winning filmmaker, director, and designer, directed the video for the song.
Despite being a remake, the song did exceptionally well and received a lot of appreciation from music lovers which is very rare for remixes. It caught the attention of Dharma Productions who then got Kanishk and Kavita Seth to recreate it for the Jugjugg Jeeyo soundtrack.
When asked about the line that needs to be drawn when it comes to reworking classics, Kanishk Seth says that while you can make changes to the tune and add different instruments but do not mess up its soul. “Like how a fashion designer accentuates the looks of a model but does not change its essence,” he says.
