Post Malone's Sunflower Song Meaning

July 31, 2023

Post Malone teamed up with Rae Sremmurd member Swae Lee for the song Sunflower which is featured on the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse soundtrack. The 'Beerbongs & Bentleys' rapper and the 'Better Now' singer trade verses on the track which has been a hit due to its catchy hook, its connection with the film and its emotional lyrics. The song also got a lot of attention because of its production by Louis Bell and Carter Lang who have worked with artists like Rihanna, SZA and Chance the Rapper.

The song is about a girl who Post believes to be a sunflower. This metaphor represents loyalty and strength because sunflowers can survive harsh environmental conditions that would wilt other flowers. The woman that Post loves is like a sunflower to him because she sticks by him through the good and bad times. Even though she is tired of his demanding lifestyle and rockstar ways, she still remains loyal to him.

This is what makes her a sunflower to him. She comes into his life when he is at the lowest point and she brings him up. He is grateful for her because he knows that without her, he wouldn't have survived.

The song's last verse reveals that he does not want to take his relationship to the next level because he feels it would be too much for him. This is probably because he feels that her love for him is too intense and overwhelming.
