Monty Ellis was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi. He was a standout at Lanier High School, where he was Parade magazine’s high school player of the year and a McDonald’s All-American. He opted to skip college and enter the NBA draft after his senior season.
In 2005, the Golden State Warriors selected him with the 40th overall pick of the second round of the draft. He spent the bulk of his career with the team, playing until 2012 when he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks for Kwame Brown and Ekpe Udoh.
