The trials and tribulations of the woman who got arrested for attacking a Black teen in New York City haven’t ended yet. TMZ reports that Miya Ponsetto, who’s been known as “SoHo Karen,” was just arrested again — this time in California for allegedly assaulting a reporter during an interview. The incident happened at LAX, where reporters were awaiting her arrival from NYC. They started filming her as she walked out of the airport, and she immediately put up a fight. She’s been charged with two counts of attempted assault, robbery, grand larceny, and endangering the welfare of a child.

In 2021, Miya gained national attention for attacking a 14-year-old boy who she accused of stealing her phone at a Manhattan hotel. The video of the encounter went viral, and Ponsetto drew accusations of racism. But in a widely viewed CBS This Morning interview, she used her Puerto Rican ethnicity to defend herself against those claims.

Miya ended up avoiding prison time by striking a deal with prosecutors. In exchange for a guilty plea to a felony charge of unlawful imprisonment as a hate crime and a misdemeanor charge of second-degree aggravated harassment, she’ll get two years of probation in her home state of California.

But if she doesn’t comply with the terms of her probation, she could face four years behind bars. Her lawyer, Paul D’Emilia, called the charges “absurd,” arguing that Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance took a “craven and opportunistic path” with his case against his client.
