Marybeth Tinning - Where is She Now?

March 19, 2024

For decades Marybeth Tinning denied she killed her infant daughter Tami Lynne. Then, she admitted it. But she is not yet a free woman.

In a case that is as strange and perplexing as it is sad, the convicted child killer is still incarcerated at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women in New York. It is the same prison that holds Pamela Smart and Carolyn Warmus, the blonde heiress who murdered her lover’s wife in 1992.

Marybeth Tinning, now 68 years old, is serving a minimum of 20 years to life for the smothering death of her 4-month-old daughter Tami Lynne. She was convicted in 1987 and has been denied parole on six previous occasions.

Several of Tinning’s other children died from 1972 to 1985, though only Tami died under suspicious circumstances. Prosecutors only pursued charges against her in the case of Tami, and she denied killing the others.

Tinning’s story gained national attention when police showed up at her home and asked her to come into the station for questioning. She agreed, though she claimed she was given her Miranda warnings before the interrogation.

Tinning has since confessed to smothering three of her children, including Tami, to death with a pillow. But she has denied killing her other children and has maintained that SIDS was the cause of their deaths. Tinning’s husband has stood by her through the years and visits her at the facility, according to a local newspaper, the Duanesburg Daily Gazette.
