About Jackie Deshannon Net Worth

American singer and songwriter Jackie DeShannon has a net worth of $12 Million. She is best known for her two enduring 1960s anthems, Burt Bacharach's "What the World Needs Now Is Love" and her own "Put a Little Love in Your Heart."

Her career began in her native Hazel, Kentucky, where she started singing country music on local radio by the age of six. She hosted her own radio show when she was eleven.

In 1961, DeShannon joined Liberty Records. Her first single on the label, "What the World Needs Now," failed to break through the top ten. But a soul-drenched cover of the Band's "The Weight" and the evocative "Put a Little Love in your Heart," which she co-wrote with her brother Randy Myer, topped the pop charts.

While her hits came from the Flower Power movement of the 1960s, DeShannon was a versatile musician who recorded rock, folk, R&B, country, and gospel. Her songs have been covered by Kim Carnes, Bruce Springsteen, The Temptations, Al Green & Annie Lennox, Taylor Swift, Ry Cooder, The Searchers, and dozens of others.

Her best-known songs include “What the World Needs Now Is Love,” “Put a Little Love in Your heart,” and “When You Walk in the Room.” She is a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Her most recent album was You Know Me, which was released in 2000. She has been married twice and is the mother of one son, Noah.
