This year's Outside Lands festival was a stellar event, but the real highlight was Gorillaz's set of their most notable hits. In addition to some new material and an oldie that's making the rounds, Damon Albarn also brought along a few surprise guests, including Little Dragon's Yukimi Nagano, who had played a few tracks earlier in the day.
The best of the bunch was a surprise performance of the band's most notable hit from their 2010 opus Plastic Beach. Featuring the aforementioned swooping dragons and the aforementioned twilight urchins, this track's high-octane production values were on the same level as any of their more recent offerings.
Despite the fact that it's been a few years since it last made an appearance, this one is still on our list of favorite Gorillaz tracks to this day. With a nod to its predecessor's more pedestrian contributions and a few well-placed mic-drop moments, this one is sure to be a crowd pleaser for many years to come.
It's no secret that Gorillaz have a knack for creating music that combines edgy style with a healthy dose of wry wit, but the group still manages to impress even the most dedicated fanatic with each release. Their newest effort, Humanz, is their most accomplished and innovative effort to date. From the dazzlingly complex visuals to the clever production values, this is an album that will leave you wanting for more.
