The former Missouri Governor Eric Greitens is currently a candidate for the United States Senate. He resigned from his position as Governor in 2018 after facing a series of allegations. He later declared that he would run for Senate in 2019.

Greitens was born on April 10, 1974, in St. Louis, Missouri. He is the son of Becky and Rob Greitens. He was raised as a Democrat and graduated from Parkway North High School in 1992.

He graduated from Duke University in 1996 with a degree in ethics, philosophy and public policy. He also earned a Rhodes scholarship and studied development studies at Lady Margaret Hall in Oxford, England. He then went on to receive a Ph.D in 2000.

During his military service, Greitens served in the United States Navy. He received a Purple Heart Medal and a Bronze Star. He has also written a number of books on humanitarianism, including "Strength & Compassion: Photographs and Essays," "The Heart and the Fist: The Education of a Humanitarian, the Making of a Navy SEAL," and “Resilience: Hard-Won Wisdom for Living a Better Life.”

After graduating from college, he began teaching public service at the Truman School of Public Affairs and was an adjunct business ethics professor at the Olin School of Business at Washington University in Saint Louis. He has also served as an adviser to the President's Council on Community Solutions, and as a director of The Mission Continues.
