Does not exist meaning

A nonexistent object is something that does not exist. This might be a physical thing, such as a person, or it might be an idea, such as a theory.

The concept of a nonexistent object is controversial among philosophers. It has been debated in the works of many prominent philosophers, including David Hume, Immanuel Kant, Gottlob Frege and Bertrand Russell.

This concept is also referred to as the 'non-existence paradox' or the'separability of existence'. It is one of the most difficult questions for philosophers to answer and is often regarded as an important philosophical problem.

To resolve the 'non-existence paradox', philosophers sometimes argue that there is no difference between existence in the wide sense and existence in the narrow sense. For example, to say that "Pegasus flies" implies that Pegasus exists in the wide sense but does not imply that he does exist in the narrow sense (that is, that he flies).

This is not the only approach. Some philosophers, such as Alfred North Whitehead, have argued that there is no such thing as an object that does not exist. This view was largely rejected by most philosophers, but it does serve to resolve some of the 'non-existence paradox'.
