David Lee Roth is one of the most famous rock stars ever. He has made his mark in the music industry by being a singer, songwriter, radio personality and actor.
He is most famous for his work with Van Halen. He is also a successful solo artist who has released several platinum and gold albums.
Known as Diamond Dave, Roth is an American rock vocalist and songwriter. He is best known as the lead vocalist for the hard rock band Van Halen.
Born in Bloomington Indiana, Roth moved to California with his family when he was a teenager. He joined a band while attending Pasadena City College. He later met Eddie and Alex Van Halen, who became his friends.
After joining Van Halen, he co-wrote and directed many of the band's videos such as Jump, Panama, Hot for Teacher, California Girls and Yankee Rose. He also contributed a number of songs to the group's 1984 album.
In 1985, Roth decided to make a break from the group and start his own solo career. His debut release was Crazy from the Heat, a collection of eclectic pop standards.
He toured in support of the record, which was produced by Bob Rock, and achieved RIAA gold status. In 1991, he released A Little Ain't Enough, which was a more mainstream hard rock effort.
The next decade saw Roth trying a different genre with Your Filthy Little Mouth, an eclectic and lyrically intricate album that combined elements of rock, country music, reggae, hip hop and lounge. This was considered a commercial failure, although it did sell well on the world tour.
