Bu thiam is the younger brother of renowned singer Akon. The brothers have collaborated on several musical projects. Bu is also known for his role in the early careers of Lady Gaga, T-Pain, and Jeremih. He became Def Jam’s youngest A&R vice president at the age of 28 and later co-founded Konvict Muzik. He currently serves as a vice president of A&R at Roc Nation, an entertainment company founded by Jay-Z.

He is also active in social work and has a strong interest in helping the underprivileged. He has donated money to build schools and has been working with Kanye West on his Hawaii studio. His frequent visits to Senegal and the lack of internet there inspired him to create one of the largest internet service providers in the country. In September 2018, he started his own firm, Bu Vision.
