Billie Eilish is one of the most beloved and sought-after singers in the world. She’s been an icon for body positivity and the scrutiny of being in the public eye, and she’s arguably one of the biggest stars of her generation.
The 19-year-old has just released a song called “Your Power” that is getting quite the response from fans. It carries an important message about those who abuse their power.
In particular, the song has been interpreted as a critique of her ex-boyfriend, Brandon Quenton Adams (known as ‘Q’) who she dated when she was only 16 years old. The pair grew apart in June of 2019, and he recently appeared in her Apple TV+ documentary, Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry, where she opened up about his destructive behavior.
It is not impossible to think that the song could be about him, however it would be much more likely if she was writing about another musician who was taking advantage of her. In the pre-chorus, she sings “How dare you?” and then later, she asks, “Will you only feel bad if it turns out? / They want to kill your contract?”
It is unlikely that she is actually singing about Q, but it’s still a fascinating song that speaks to many. If you’re interested in hearing her take on the issue, check out the full lyrics below.
