Throughout the song there are many different phrases, sounds and lyrics that work together to create a powerful piece of music. There are even some parts where the lyrics are sliding; they move from one note to another, or hold a note just below the intended pitch and only slide it up to the next desired pitch at the end of the note. I really like this because it shows that the artists were able to use their own style and creativity to create something that is very powerful and meaningful in so many ways.
It's not often that we hear lyrics from a female rapper that are very personal, but Nicki Minaj has made an exception with her fourth single off of The Pinkprint, "Bed of Lies." Featuring Skylar Grey on the vocal hook, the song is one of the more confessional tracks on the album. It features a heartfelt rap from Minaj that takes aim at a scummy ex-boyfriend. This is a great song and I hope that Nicki Minaj keeps writing songs with this style in the future.
