Anthony Cook: Where Is He Now?

March 11, 2024

When 19-year-old Mallory Beach died in a horrific boating accident in 2019, it shocked not only her family and friends but the entire Low Country community. She had been on a river party boat that belonged to Paul Murdaugh, the son of a wealthy and powerful family that held tremendous, indubitable influence for literal generations. HBO Max's 'Low Country: The Murdaugh Dynasty' and Netflix's 'Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal' focused on the incident and the ensuing fallout from it, which included the arrest of Paul's son Alex, but what happened that night is still very much up in the air. Among the passengers on that fateful boat was Anthony Cook, who was dating Mallory. Here's what you need to know about him.

On that tragic night, the two had traveled to a house party on Paukie Island with a few other friends. They left the party at midnight and went to a bar to have some drinks. Then, they hopped on Paul's boat at around 1 am. By this time, Paul was belligerent and intoxicated to the point of being nearly three times over the legal alcohol limit and refused to let anyone else drive.

This led to the crash that killed Mallory. At the scene, Anthony was desperate to find his girlfriend. He ripped into Paul for smiling and ignoring the gravity of what had just happened, and he risked his life to swim out to her and call out her name. He later suffered from PTSD-like symptoms.
